NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. health officials reported another death and several more cases of vision loss from illnesses linked to eyedrops tainted with a drug-resistant bacteria. The bacteria has infected 81 people, including four who died and 14 who lost vision, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday. That’s up from three deaths and eight cases of vision loss reported in March. The CDC also said four people have undergone surgery to remove an eyeball due to the infections. The outbreak is considered particularly worrisome because the bacteria driving it — Pseudomonas aeruginosa — is resistant to standard antibiotics.Investigators say most of the patients had used certain brands of eyedrops, and products from EzriCare and Delsam Pharma were recalled in February. At least seven patients were diagnosed after the recall. After the recall, U.S. health inspectors visited the plant in India that made the eyedrops and uncovered problems with how the drops were made and tested, i...Cubs' Friday moves include saying goodbye to a veteran player

PHILADELPHIA — As the Cubs look to snap a five-game losing streak in their final series of a nine-game road trip, they've made a number of moves on their roster. That includes saying goodbye to one of the veteran players they acquired before the season. On Friday, the team announced that first baseman Eric Hosmer has been designated for assignment after 31 games with the club. This comes as he was hitting .230 with three doubles, two homers, and 14 RBI as both a first baseman and designated hitter. Hosmer, a four-time Gold Glove winner and a 2016 AL All-Star with the Royals, was signed to a one-year deal this past winter. That was just one of a few moves made by the club ahead of the three-game series with the Phillies as Nico Hoerner was reinstated off the 10-day IL. He'd gone on the list with a left hamstring strain last week but has returned to the lineup quickly. Unfortunately, another starter, outfielder Cody Bellinger, is headed to the 10-day IL with a left knee contusion. He su...Dave Matthews rails against gun violence: 'No one is coming for your guns'

AUSTIN (KXAN) — As the one-year anniversary of the mass shooting in Uvalde approaches, a bill that would end a controversial legal loophole used to block victims and families from seeing important records is the closest its ever been to closing. The “dead suspect loophole” refers to an exemption in Texas’ public records law that gives police discretion to withhold information in criminal cases that haven’t gone through the court process — even when a suspect dies in police custody.“There’s no greater need for the people to know the truth then when an interaction with their government leaves one of them dead,” said State Rep. Joe Moody, D-El Paso, at a hearing earlier this month. He filed House Bill 30 and has been pushing for years to close the loophole, which is blocking Uvalde families from getting answers.“Law enforcement refused to release those [Uvalde] records,” Moody previously said. “And, we all knew very well that they never had to release them, ever, because of th...Austin ISD plans to pull millions from reserve funds to give educators 7 percent raise
